Only the cookies the site needs in order to work
There are no tracking cookies on this site, no advertising cookies and nothing that can recognise you across websites. What there is, is the minimum needed to make the site do what you ask of it: remember which language you are reading in, and remember what is in your basket.
That is why you see no cookie banner. Cookies that are strictly necessary to deliver a service you asked for do not require consent (article 11.7a(3) of the Dutch Telecommunications Act). And we do not ask for anything else.
What is also absent
- No Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no tracking cookie of any kind.
- No advertising and no advertising network.
- No social network buttons.
- No embedded videos from YouTube or Vimeo.
- No Google fonts. All fonts are hosted on our own server, so loading a page sends no request to another company.
- No script or file from a third party, from anywhere. The visitor counter described below also runs on our own server.
- No cookie that recognises you across different websites.
How we do know how many people come by
We count visits, but without a cookie and without anything leaving the building.
For this we use Burst Statistics. That is not another company’s service but software running along with this website; the counts sit in our own database. Nothing is placed on your device and nothing is read from it. To avoid counting one visit of five pages as five visitors, the software creates an anonymous code that changes every day. It cannot be traced back to you and we never see it.
What we see is a set of totals: how many visits, which pages, where people came from and roughly what kind of device. No names, no profiles, nothing that can be joined up across several days.
Because nothing is placed on or read from your device, no consent is required (article 11.7a(3) of the Dutch Telecommunications Act). Hence no cookie banner. That is a choice rather than an oversight: we would rather have a site without a banner than a banner asking about something we do not do.
If you have “Do Not Track” switched on in your browser, you are not counted at all. An ad blocker stops the measurement as well.
Which cookies there are
These are the cookies that do exist. All three strictly necessary, all three permitted without consent.
Your choice of language. This site exists in Dutch and in English. If you use the language switcher, a cookie named pll_language remembers which language you chose, so that you land there again next time. It holds nothing but the language code, so nl or en. It lasts a year.
When you put something in your basket. The site then has to remember what is in it, or your basket would be empty the moment you click to another page. The shop software stores a reference in your browser for that. It holds no personal data – only a pointer to your basket. It disappears by itself once your order is complete, or after a while if you buy nothing.
When the owner logs in. WordPress uses a login cookie for the administration area. That does not affect you as a visitor; it applies only to the site owner’s account.
Clearing cookies
If you would like to clear what is in your browser anyway, you can do so through your browser settings, usually under “privacy” or “clear browsing data”. If you have something in your basket at that moment, it will be empty afterwards.
If this changes
If we later add something that does require cookies – an embedded video, for example – we will update this page and ask your permission first, before anything is placed.
